Siem Reap - Cambodia
Siem Reap, Cambodia is most well-known as the home of the stunning and impressive Angkor Temples.
The empire of Angkor was, in its heyday, the largest religious monument in the world. Believed to have been in existence since 800 AD, when the Khmer King Jayavarman II announced the independence of Kambujadesa (Cambodia) from Java.
Today, Angkor consists of many different structures built right through until the 15th century when it was believed to have been abandoned. It was little more than a village when French explorers re-discovered Angkor in the 19th century. Today, a visit to Angkor should be on everyone’s holiday bucket list.
While the town of Siem Reap is still small, you’ll feel its delightful charm when experiencing the amazing array of sights, delectable dining, and things to do. The town centre, the old market, and Pub Street give visitors a relaxed and enjoyable time in between touring the temples, visiting local artisans, and exploring the museums and boutiques. And no visit is complete without catching the wonderfully entertaining Cambodian Circus supporting disadvantaged youth – Phare!
